Somatic Breathwork
Soma+IQ™ (Somatic Breathwork) is a modality that takes you on an inward journey to reconnect you with your body and its innate intelligence. It utilises the breath to access the nervous system, where stress is stored in the body. You see, when we have stress and unprocessed emotions in our system that have accumulated over time, the nervous system can become dysregulated. This can show up as pain, tension and dysfunctional holding and movement patterns in the body. This is your body's way of telling you it needs to release and relax. On an emotional level, we can perhaps be highly reactive or the complete opposite and numb out completely and shut down. However it shows up in your life, with a dysregulated nervous system we cannot live a healthy, happy life and have healthy, happy relationships. Somatic Breathwork can help us release this stress and bring us back into alignment so that we can be more present to ourselves and the ones we love and relate with.
It's all about EXPRESSION! Can you think of a time in your life when you have been unable to express yourself in some way or another? I'm sure you absolutely can, and that is true for everyone. This is why I want you to know - there is nothing wrong with you! We have all had our expression shut down as a child and probably as an adult too. Every time that has happened that incomplete expression has stayed in your body just waiting for another opportunity to be felt. If we don't give our body the opportunity to complete that expression and truly feel it, the chances are situations in your life will continue to arise in order for that expression to come alive and be felt. This is where we can often feel like we're going around in circles, never really getting to the bottom of whatever the problem is. By leaving this unattended to, you will keep having the same argument's, about the same things, in the same reactive way. Or perhaps you play small and never really step into your full power or perhaps you don't ever feel you can take up space.
Our feelings want to be FELT and Somatic Breathwork gives us the opportunity to release anything that is in the way of our fullest expression.
As a Somatic Breathwork Practitioner my role is to co-regulate with your nervous system. When I am able to attune to your nervous system in a way that creates a sense of safety, your body will have the space to express however it wants to, releasing the stuck emotions such as grief, sadness, rage or even anger. Through movement, tears, sound, laughter, maybe even yelling or shaking. Whatever comes up is for you to feel and move through you and I want you to know, it is all welcome.
So what does a Somatic Breathwork session look like? They can be held in groups or 1:1, online or in-person. Whatever works for you. It is powerful either way. The full journey sessions are 90 minutes, 60 minutes breathwork with 15 minutes either side of for settling in and post session integration or group sharing if applicable. There are 6 rounds of breathing with breath holds in between. Music playing in the background and you will be guided by me the whole way through, giving verbal prompts if and when necessary to help support your process.
